Domestic Violence Offender Charged - Central Australia

Police

Police have charged a 33-year-old man following the alleged aggravated assault of his partner.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said Police allege the offender assaulted a 32-year-old woman on four separate occasions between 19 February and 17 March in Alice Springs and remote communities in Central Australia.

“These violent assaults involved weapons, and Police will allege that the male used items such as a broom, wheel brace, a small wooden table and a baby pram to strike the victim to the head and body.”

Police arrested the man in Haasts Bluff yesterday and charged him with:

Aggravated assault (x4)

Breach Domestic Violence Order (x4)

Armed with an offensive weapon (x3)

Armed with an offensive weapon at night (x4)

He was remanded in custody and will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

“This behaviour is completely unacceptable and domestic violence will not be tolerated. Strike Force Romulus will continue to target domestic and family violence offenders in Alice Springs and Central Australia,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.
