Minor Flood Warning - Gorge Road Katherine

Police

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Minor Flood Warning for the Katherine River at Gorge Road.

The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is expected to reach the minor flood level early this evening. With rain still falling in the catchment, there is a potential that the river may continue to rise overnight and possibly approach the moderate flood level early tomorrow morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology is also closely monitoring levels in the Waterhouse River. There is a possibility of flooding at Beswick Bridge, which may cut off the Central Arnhem Highway.

“People in areas likely to be affected are asked to take necessary steps to ensure your personal safety, and protection of your property,” said A/Assistant Commissioner Michael Murphy.

“The Katherine Local Emergency Committee has met this afternoon.

“SMS messaging will be utilised to inform the community of any further advice received from the Bureau of Meteorology.”

A further update will be provided later today.
