Katherine River

At 9.00am the Katherine River was 2.6m at Nitmiluk Centre and rapidly falling.

“No further warnings will be issued for the Katherine River at this time,” said A/Assistant Commissioner Michael Murphy.

“Gorge Road has now reopened to all traffic.

“All low access points to the river, including the low level crossing, remain closed as water levels recede. Katherine Town Council will monitor these access points and reopen when deemed safe to do so.”

Waterhouse River

The Waterhouse River at the Beswick Bridge is below minor flood level and falling.

“Central Arnhem Highway has been reopened with an 8-tonne weight restriction,” said A/Assistant Commissioner Murphy. “This will be re-evaluated as the road dries out.

“Wugularr (Beswick) School will remain closed on Monday for cleaning, but is expected to reopen on Tuesday for classes as normal.”

Jilkminggan area

“There is still some water over the road on the Roper Highway, motorists should proceed with caution.

“Digital roadside signage is in place around Mataranka, we ask all motorists to heed advice.”

Daly River

Police continue to monitor the Daly River, which is rising but at the present time does not appear to be a flood threat.

“I’d like to thank all the agencies involved in this event for their professional response,” said A/Assistant Commissioner Murphy.
