Northern Territory Police were generally pleased with motorists this Easter weekend.

As part of the national Operation Crossroads, NT Police were participating in a road safety blitz aimed at minimising death and injury on our roads during the holiday period.

“We lost one life on Territory roads this Easter,” said Acting Commander Mark Christopher. “That is one too many. But overall, we were very pleased with the responsible approach taken by Territory drivers.”

Over the four day Easter break, Police administered more than 8000 random breath tests.

• Drink driving offences: 27 
• Drug tests administered: 2
• Roadside drug tests positive (indicative): 0      
• Licence offences - drive disqualified, suspended, or unlicensed: 29
• Traffic Infringement Notices - does not include speeding offences: 101
• Seatbelt infringements: 11
• Mobile Phone use infringements: 0        
• Speeding offences - does not include camera-detected offences: 85
• Vehicle impoundments: 1                                

In Litchfield Park, Police reported the public was also well behaved, with many families attending. 28 Traffic Infringement Notices were issued in Litchfield, and 23 Park Infringement Notices were issued by Park and Wildlife rangers. Nine people were asked to leave the park over the weekend.
