Northern Territory Police have arrested a 38-year-old female following the alleged theft of a large quantity of mail from letter boxes.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer from Strike Force Trident said the female was arrested after she was observed removing mail from residential letter boxes in Stuart Park on Tuesday.

“It is also alleged the woman was driving a reported stolen motor vehicle.”

She was arrested and charged with:

• Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
• Theft of mail (x4)
• Unlawfully possess property (x2)

“Police will alleged this offender was targeting credit cards and personal bank details,  I advise people to clear their mailboxes regularly to avoid being a victim of this crime,” said Senior Sergeant Stringer.

She was remanded in custody and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.
