Public Assistance Required - Suspicious Person - Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police are currently investigating reports of a suspicious person in the northern suburb of Wanguri.

At approximately 7.20am on Friday morning a 12-year-old girl was walking along Gsell Street, Wanguri when she was approached by a male in a van who asked the girl to get in the vehicle.

Territory Duty Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said the girl ran away from the vehicle and reported the incident to the first adult she trusted.

“The girl has done the right thing by fleeing the scene and reporting the incident immediately even though she was frightened by the confrontation.

“Police are now actively searching for this person and the vehicle.”

The male is described as an older Caucasian in his 60’s or 70’s with grey combed back hair and a moustache.  He had blue eyes and was wearing a light grey singlet over a chubby build.

The man spoke with a deep voice and had red marks on his hand and upper right arm.

The van is described as a Toyota with a cargo barrier and sliding door with no side windows.

The van was rusty and the outline of lettering that had been removed from the side was visible.

“Police request anyone with information or who may have seen the van described in that area yesterday morning or who knows of a vehicle or person matching this description to please contact them on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 33 00.”  Territory Duty Superintendent Muldoon said.
