Police have charged a 49-year-old man following an armed robbery in Alice Springs CBD this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said a man entered a fast food outlet on Hartley Street at around 8:00am and allegedly threatened an employee with a knife demanding cash.

“The employee handed over a small amount of money and the offender fled the scene.

“Police arrested the man shortly before 10:00am. This was a great result from Strike Force Vega members who ensured this man was swiftly taken into custody.”

He was charged with aggravated robbery and possess cannabis.

He will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 28 April 2015.
