A 52-year-old woman remains in Police custody following the death of a 51-year-old woman in Katherine.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Tony Henrys said Police allege the two women, who are related to one another, were involved in an altercation near O’Shea Terrace at around 6:00pm yesterday.

“Police allege the offender stabbed the woman with a star picket. The victim was taken to Katherine Hospital but died early this morning.

“The alleged offender was arrested at scene and is assisting Detectives in Katherine with their enquiries.

“Members from Major Crime and the Forensic Unit are travelling from Darwin and investigations are ongoing.

“Police urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident or anyone with any information to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
