Social Disturbance - Groote Eylandt - Update #3

Two people will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today in relation to a social disturbance at Angurugu on 12 May.

Two people were injured during the disturbance and extra Police were flown from Darwin to assist Alyangula Members.

Police thank local Elders and community members for their assistance in bringing this matter to a closure and ensuring no further disorder occurred.

As a result of the disturbance a 41-year-old male has been charged with:

Intend cause serious harm with projectile
Armed with offensive weapon
Going armed in public
knowingly continue to riot

And a 17-year-old male was charged with:

Intend cause serious harm
Armed with offensive weapon
Going armed in public
knowingly continue to riot

They have been remanded in custody to reappear in Darwin Magistrates Court at a later date.

A 28-year-old male was charged with:

Intend cause serious harm with projectile
Armed with offensive weapon
Going armed in public
knowingly continue to riot

A 32-year-old male was charged with:

Intend cause serious harm with projectile
Armed with offensive weapon
Going armed in public
knowingly continue to riot

They will appear at Darwin Magistrates Court today.
