Drug Arrests - Adelaide River

Police

Detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Squad, Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk and Officers from the Dog Operation Unit have seized a significant amount of cannabis as a result of Operation Diotase, an investigation into the supply of cannabis into remote communities.

Detective Superintendent Tony Fuller said a male aged 58 and a woman aged 57 were arrested.

“A Toyota Hilux utility was stopped and searched near Adelaide River on Sunday.  Drug Detection Dog Cougar gave a positive response to drugs and 13.6 kilograms of cannabis was discovered in the cargo area of the vehicle.

“Police will allege these drugs were destined for the Darwin and remote community markets.”

Detective Superintendent Fuller said a later search warrant in Girraween yesterday uncovered $334,000 in cash and evidence that Police will allege supports the claim the offenders were supplying cannabis from the residence.

“Investigations are continuing and further arrests are expected.”
