Finke Desert Race Wrap Up

Police

Police were pleased with the crowd’s behaviour at this year’s 40th year celebration of the Finke Desert Race.

Acting Superintendent Virginia Read said attendance at the event was significantly higher than in previous years and Police report that patrons were generally very well behaved.

“Police also conducted over 3500 random breath tests during the weekend. Four arrests were made for drink driving offences.

“A 35-year-old man recorded the highest blood alcohol reading of 0.227 per cent at an RBT station 40 kilometres south of the Stuart Highway on Sunday, he was also unlicensed.

“The man was arrested for high range drink driving and driving a vehicle while unlicensed.  He will appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Courts at a later date.

“Police also issued 18 Notices to Appear for a range of offences including unregistered and uninsured vehicles and driving unlicensed.

“Police would like to thank everyone who attended the Finke Desert Race for making it a safe and enjoyable event.”
