Cannabis Seized - Darwin

Police

Police have seized 640 grams of cannabis after screening passengers due to fly out to remote communities.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims said members from the Drug and Organised Crime Squad and Dog Operations Unit conducted screenings at Darwin Airport yesterday.

“Drug Detector Dog April provided a positive response to a passenger’s bag and Police located 180 grams of cannabis, two bottles of spirits and clip seal bags.

“A 44-year-old woman was arrested and charged with supply drug in a community, possess cannabis – trafficable quantity and bring liquor into an Alcohol Protected Area.

She was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 27 July 2015.

“Detective Senior Sergeant Sims said a 24-year-old man was also issued a Drug Infringement Notice after Drug Detector Dog Yeti provided a positive response to the male’s bag. Police located and seized 15 grams of cannabis concealed in a container of hair conditioner.

“Drug Detector Dogs April and Cougar also provided positive responses to two separate bags. In the first bag Police located 120 grams of cannabis concealed inside talcum powder bottles. In the second bag Police located a further 325 grams of cannabis divided into 13 deal bags.

“Enquiries are continuing in relation to these two cannabis seizures.

“If sold in a remote community Police estimate the cannabis could have fetched around $64,000.

“Police do not tolerate the supply of illicit drugs into remote communities and will continue to target the individuals who profit from this kind of offending.”
