Strike Force Romulus - Two Men Charged - Alice Springs

Members from Strike Force Romulus have charged two men with domestic violence related offences against their partners in Alice Springs.

Acting Sergeant Caragh Hen said Police allege a 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were involved in an altercation on Gap Road on 27 June.

“It is alleged the male struck his partner several times with a bottle of sprits causing it to smash. Police also allege the offender used the broken bottle to stab the woman before fleeing the scene.

“The woman was taken to Alice Springs Hospital to receive treatment for injuries to her head.

“The offender also allegedly assaulted the same 24-year-old woman on 25 August 2013.

“Strike Force Romulus arrested the man on Friday morning and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault and armed with an offensive weapon at night. He was remanded in custody and will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 24 July 2015.

“In a separate incident Police allege a 23-year-old man assaulted his partner on South Terrace on the 25 May.

“He was arrested by Police on Saturday and charged with Aggravated Assault.  He is due to appear in court today.

“Strike Force Romulus is an ongoing operation targeting domestic and family violence in Alice Springs and Police take a zero tolerance approach to this type of offending,”  Acting Sergeant Hen said.
