Youths Charged – Hit and Run - Palmerston

Northern Territory Police have charged two 13-year-old males following the aggravated unlawful use of a stolen motor vehicle overnight.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Blank said just before 6:00pm yesterday Police will allege that four youths stole a blue Nissan Navara from a car park in Casuarina.

“At around 6.30pm, Police spotted the vehicle traveling down Chung Wah Avenue. Upon seeing the Police, the driver sped off, lost control of the vehicle on the corner on Sibbald Crescent and struck a 74-year-old female pedestrian.

“The pedestrian was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

“All four youths fled on foot, two were arrested nearby by Palmerston General Duties Members,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Bland said.

The two offenders have been jointly charged with: 

  • Aggravated Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicle (x2)
  • Recklessly Endanger life (x2)
  • Dangerous driving (x2)
  • Hit and run (x2)
  • Fail to Rescue (x2)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle causing Serious Harm (x2)

They remain in Police custody.

Enquiries are currently being made to locate the outstanding two offenders.
