Tennant Creek Police have charged a 33-year-old man in relation to allegedly assaulting a Police Officer and being armed in public.

Acting Superintendent Des Green said Police allege the man was drinking alcohol in a restricted area on Tuesday, 21 July.

“Police officers seized the alcohol and attempted to issue an infringement notice when it is alleged the offender confronted the officers.

“Police allege the man ran at them, and when given direction to stop, he turned to his vehicle and armed himself with a knife.

“The Officers again directed the man to stop and drop the weapon. This time he complied walked back into his house.”

The man was arrested at the scene and was charged yesterday with

  • Assault a member of the Police Force
  • Recklessly endangering serious harm
  • Possess/carry a controlled weapon
  • Disorderly behaviour in a public place
  • Consume liquor in an Alcohol Protected Area

He was remanded in custody and will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court later this week.
