Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle - Charges - Darwin

Detectives from Strike Force Trident have charged a 21-year-old man after he allegedly stole a motor vehicle and crashed into a Police vehicle last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said Police were directing a Mitsubishi Magna into Random Breath Testing Station on the Stuart Highway, Winnellie just after midnight.

“It is alleged the offenders ignored Police and drove away. Police located the vehicle a short time later while they were conducting patrols of Knuckey Lagoon. Police alleged the driver of the Mitsubishi Magna crashed into the Police vehicle causing damage to the right front end light.

“Police followed the vehicle for a short period of time along Berrimah Road and Tiger Brennan Drive before disengaging at the Tivendale intersection.

“The two males and stolen vehicle were located at a residence in Howard Springs early this morning.”

The 21-year-old male was charged with:

  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Recklessly endangering serious harm

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 15-year-old has received Youth Diversion.
