The Northern Territory road toll has risen to 36 following a fatal crash in Stuart Park.
“A Ford Falcon travelling outbound on Stuart Highway at about 5:00am failed to negotiate a bend in the road,” said Watch Commander Bob Harrison.
“The vehicle appears to have hit a tree and rolled several times before bursting into flames. The single occupant of the vehicle is deceased.”
It is believed that speed is a factor in the crash.
Police, Fire and Rescue Services and NT Emergency Services personnel attended the scene and a section of the Stuart Highway remains closed as investigations continue and clean-up progresses.
Police would like to thank the public for their cooperation this morning.
The road toll for the same time last year was 29.
