Man Charged - Sexual Assault and Threat to Kill - Darwin

Members from the Sex Crimes Unit have charged a 28-year-old male following two attacks on woman in Darwin’s CBD yesterday evening.

In the first incident, the man is alleged to have physically assaulted a 57-year-old woman, and attempted to sexually assault her. After a short struggle, the female victim was able to fight off her attacker, and report the matter.

Police allege that the man then pushed 21 year old woman to the ground a short time later, but she was also able to fight him off and he fled.

The man has been charged with:

  • 1 x Unlawful entry – dwelling
  • 1 x Attempt sexual intercourse without consent
  • 1 x Deprivation of liberty
  • 2 x Aggravated assault
  • 1 x Armed with an offensive weapon
  • 1 x Threat to kill

He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Monday, 21 September 2015).

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Janelle Tonkin said Police were grateful to local businesses and members of the public who assisted the investigation, but urged Territorians to always be alert for their personal safety.

“Darwin is a place where most people feel safe from the dangers of ‘big city’ crime. Unfortunately the unexpected can happen. Be aware that a few simple precautions everyone can take that will go a long way to improve your personal safety,” she said.
