Detectives from Darwin and Katherine are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman in Yirrkala last night.

Nhulunbuy Police and St John Ambulance were called to a residence in Yirrkala at about 8:30pm on Friday, 2 October, after receiving a report of a collapsed woman.  The 47-year-old woman was declared deceased at the residence a short time later.

A crime scene has been established and a 49-year-old man is in Police custody, and is assisting with inquiries.
