Detectives from Southern Drug Investigation Unit and Cross Border Team have seized a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine and a small amount of Cannabis and charged a 23-year-old man in Alice Springs yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said Police apprehended a white Toyota Landcruiser on the Stuart Highway about 70km south of Alice Springs at around 14:23 yesterday and conducted a search of the vehicle. Drug Detector Dog Wilson gave a positive response for the presence of drugs. Cannabis was located as well as a further three suspicious containers.
“As a result of the search Police located and seized a trafficable amount of methamphetamine with a potential street value of around $43,000.
“Police arrested the man on the scene and seized the drugs and the vehicle.”
The 23-year-old man was charged with:
- Possess methamphetamine (trafficable quantity)
- Supply methamphetamine
- Possess cannabis
- Possess thing used to administer
- Drive under the influence of drugs
“NT Police deploy considerable resources to protect their borders from persons transporting drugs,” Detective Senior Sergeant Malley said.
“This particular arrest saw the Cross Border Team working alongside the local Drug Squad.
“Methamphetamine is a drug that is having a significant impact on the community and we will continue to do our part in the fight against drugs.”
The man was remanded to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Thursday 8 October 2015
