Police have wrapped up a week long community engagement operation in Palmerston.

Operation Bicosa commenced on Monday 12 October and included members from Palmerston’s Youth Engagement Unit and Neighbourhood Watch who doorknocked residences in Rosebery to talk locals about home security.

Superintendent Daniel Shean said Police delivered 313 kits which included information about vehicle and household security, a Neighbourhood Watch ultraviolet property marking kit and a fridge magnet with emergency contact numbers.

“A Mobile Police Station was also set up in Rosebery which allowed members to engage with the public and talk to locals about concerns they have in their community.

“Later in the week Police from Palmerston, Casuarina and Darwin Police Stations, along with officers from Strike Force Trident and the Darwin Traffic Operations, conducted a series of random breath testing stations and other proactive policing duties such as foot and bike patrols in Moulden and surrounding suburbs.

“During that time Police breath tested 324 drivers and issued 15 Infringement Notices and eight Notices to Appear. A further six vehicles received defect notices, three people were arrested and 27 litres of alcohol was destroyed.

“Members from the Mounted Police Unit conducted patrols across Palmerston last week and spoke to more than 400 people within the community while General Duty Officers covered lane ways and parks on pushbikes and Segway’s.

“Operation Bicosa concluded yesterday. The Operation was a success with Police planning on doing similar community engagement activities in Palmerston in the near future,” Superintendent Shean said.
