Northern Territory Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man from Gapuwiyak last night.

“The 21-year-old had been involved in an altercation in the Arnhem Land community in the early hours of Saturday morning in which he received a stab wound to the shoulder,” Detective Acting Superintendent Chris Board said.

“The man was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital by Careflight in a critical condition yesterday but passed away overnight.”

Investigators from the Northern Investigations Section along with a Crime Scene examiner attended the community yesterday.

A suspect has been taken into custody with further Detectives from Major Crime and Serious Crime arriving today.
