Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Member Arrested – Darwin

Police

NT Police have today arrested a 24-year-old outlaw motorcycle gang member.

Detective Sergeant Crispin Gargan of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad said officers from the Gangs Task Force in an unmarked police car observed the man riding in a group of patched members into Darwin on Tiger Brennan Drv on Friday afternoon.

“The man began riding erratically, and when Police attempted to apprehend him, he fled at great speed,” Detective Sergeant Gargan said.

“Police engaged in a short high-speed pursuit, but terminated after the rider narrowly avoided a collision when running a red light.”

After further enquiries, Police arrested the man at his workplace today.

He has been charged with:

  • Failing to stop
  • Dangerous driving during pursuit
  • Fail to indicate (x2)
  • Driving unregistered and uninsured vehicle
  • Driving unlicensed
  • Fail to provide personal particulars

He was was also issued a defect notice for the bike.

“The Bandidos have been active in Darwin for less than a fortnight,” Detective Sergeant Gargan said.

“The club’s National President was recently quoted saying the Darwin public have nothing to fear from the newly established Top End chapter of the club, it would appear that perhaps this is not the case.

“The behaviour of the rider at the time was reckless and dangerous and put lives at risk. It showed a blatant disregard for public safety and is truly in keeping with the codes that these one per cent outlaw clubs live by”.

He was bailed to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 9 December.
