Man Charged – Assault a Member of the Police – Kintore

Alice Springs Police in Kintore have charged a man for assaulting a member of the Police Force and are questioning five other men in relation to an incident in Kintore last night.

Superintendent Don Fry said the man, aged 27, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a Police Officer with an axe after a large fight broke out.

“Police in Kintore were called out to an altercation at around 11:30pm on 13 December.

“Police intervened and dispersed the people, however fighting continued and members observed the man running towards a group of people waving a small axe above his head and yelling and screaming.

“Officers moved in and restrained the man and he has made to strike the axe at the officers in the process,” said Superintendent Fry.

The man was charged with:

  • Going armed in public
  • Engage in violent conduct
  • Assault a member of Police Force
  • Fight in a public place

He is due to appear in court in Alice Springs today.

Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
