Man Charged – Crime Spree – Darwin

A 25-year-old male will be spending Christmas behind bars following a crime spree through the Darwin northern suburbs.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said Police will allege on 24 November the male came into possession of a Holden Commodore stolen from a residence in Muirhead.

“The male was then captured on CCTV attending a number of businesses and making purchases with a stolen credit card, before allegedly setting fire to the commodore in bushland.

“Police will allege that on 7 December, the male came into possession of a stolen Toyota Kluger, which he then drove around the Darwin area. The vehicle was later recovered by Police.

“On 15 December Police arrested the male at a residence in Bellamack. He was found to be in possession of a small quantity of methamphetamine as well as suspected stolen property.”

He was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 10 February 2016 charged with:

  • Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Obtain benefit by deception (x4)
  • Arson
  • Possess methamphetamine
  • Unlawfully possess property
  • Warrant for apprehension

“We would like to remind people to be extra vigilant over the holiday season, to avoid being the next victim secure your property and valuables.

“To the would-be thieves out there, Strike Force Trident will be working extra hard over the holiday season and we will come and get you,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer.
