Indecent Assaults – Alice Springs

Police

Police are investigating two indecent assaults on female tourists staying at a budget accommodation in Alice Springs this week.

In the first incident on 13 December, a 23-year-old woman was approached by an unknown male as she was walking along Stuart Highway towards the accommodation at about 10:30pm.

“The offender pushed her against a fence and indecently assaulted her before walking away,” Senior Constable Jamie Mawhinney said.

“On 15 December about 11:30pm, two more young women staying at the same accommodation were grabbed and pushed to the ground on the street outside the venue.

“On both occasions the women gave similar descriptions of their attacker and Police believe the same person is responsible for both incidents.”

The person of interest is described as a Caucasian male aged in his early to mid-40s, about 180cm tall with short curly hair and of a medium build. This description includes wearing a pair of glasses during the second incident.

“It is not acceptable that anyone should have to endure an assault of this nature, and this is most certainly not the experience we want our tourists to take away with them,” Senior Constable Mawhinney said.

Anyone who may know this person, or knows of anyone matching this description, is asked to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
