Sexual Assault – Ngukurr – Update

Police

Detectives from the Northern Investigation Unit are calling for public assistance following the sexual assault that occurred in the Ngukurr Community on Thursday morning.

“The victim was awoken by an intruder in her room around 3:00am on 17 December,” said Detective Senior Sergeant David Richardson.

“This was a cowardly act and Police are putting all available resources into apprehending the attacker with support from the community.

“The offender is described as an aboriginal male, approximately 20 years of age, skinny build, clean shaven and had hair long enough to pull into a ponytail. He may have a fresh wound to his face that the victim inflicted during her struggle.”

Police door-knocked the community yesterday but have not had any leads. Samples taken from the scene are being analysed by Forensics.

“The offender may have left the community after the attack and Police are asking the public to keep an eye out for him.”

If sighted, this person should not be approached. Anyone who may know this person is asked to contact police immediately on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
