Members from the family violence unit have charged a 29-year-old male with a series of violent offences.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tanya Woodcock said the recidivist family violence offender had been actively avoiding Police, and on Monday 18 January 2016, he was arrested in the suburb of Malak.
“During the arrest, it is alleged the man repeatedly punched a Police dog. He was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for injuries sustained to his arm and leg.”
He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with:
- Conduct in contravention of DVO (x6)
- Unlawfully damage property (x2)
- Aggravated assault (x2)
- Escape Lawful custody
- Resist Police in the execution of their duty
The man is expected to face further charges for hindering the Police dog in the execution of his duty.
“This man came to the attention of the Family Violence Unit as a result of his alleged breaches of a Domestic Violence Order. Further investigations revealed additional violent crimes allegedly committed by the man,” said Detective Woodcock.
