Charges – Methamphetamine Seized – Katherine

Northern Territory Police have charged two men for possessing Methamphetamine in two separate incidents in Katherine yesterday.

Senior Constable Mitch Stephens said that members from the Northern Investigation Section and Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk seized methamphetamines, cash and cannabis and charged two men aged 51 and 33.

“Police searched the 51-year-old man’s vehicle and allegedly found a quantity of methamphetamine on his person and $4150 in cash,” he said.

“Police also searched his house where they found a further quantity of cash.”

He was charged with:

  • Possession and supply of methamphetamine
  • Drive with prohibited drug in blood

“Later that day investigators executed a separate drug search warrant at an address in Katherine East, occupied by a 33-year-old male,” said Senior Constable Stephens.

“Drug Detector Dog ‘Bear’ gave conditioned responses to several areas, leading police to find a further 15.5 grams of methamphetamine and a quantity of cannabis.”

He was arrested and later charged with:

  • possessing a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine
  • possession of cannabis
  • possession of a thing to administer a dangerous drug
  • possessing fireworks outside an approved period

 Both men were remanded in custody and will appear in Katherine Magistrates Court today.
