Northern Territory Police are calling for public assistance to help locate 27-year-old Amit Hamal, who escaped from detention this morning.

Mr Hamal is a detainee from the Wickham Point Immigration Detention Centre, who ran off from a scheduled outing in Darwin.

He is approximately 175cm tall, of medium build, with short dark hair and was wearing a cream-coloured shirt, jeans, black shoes with white soles, and a cream-coloured “Under Armour” baseball cap.

The public are urged not to approach him, but rather to pass any information regarding his whereabouts on to Police by calling 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
