Call for Witnesses - Assault - Leanyer

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses of an alleged assault on Vanderlin Drive, Leanyer early this morning.

Casuarina Station Officer-in-Charge, Acting Senior Sergeant Tanya Mace said a 53-year-old woman was walking along the footpath outside the Hibiscus Shopping Centre shortly before 6am when the alleged assault took place.

“A man approached her and asked for the time. She continued on her way, but shortly after heard footsteps and was grabbed from behind, around her waist and a hand placed over her mouth,” she said.

“Thankfully, the woman managed to break free and fled scene.”

The offender is described as of Indigenous appearance, aged in his 20s, about 175cm tall with medium length curly hair and a bandage on his left arm. He was wearing a black T-Shirt with a white collar, and black shorts with white trim.
