On-selling of Alcohol - Jabiru

Police

Jabiru Police have stopped 170 litres of liquor from entering Northern Territory remote communities in the early hours of Saturday, 21 May 2016.

Sergeant Robert De Vos said this seizure resulted in a significant reduction of alcohol-related offences for Jabiru, Oenpelli and Maningrida communities over the weekend.

“The on-selling of alcohol has a considerable mark-up, often being sold for twice the retail price. Usually, a 700ml bottle of bourbon retail price is $35.00; this could sell for $120.00 in remote communities,” he said.

“Police will continue to conduct high visibility patrols around, but not limited to, the main Northern Territory highways to detect alcohol and illicit drugs from entering remote communities.

“If you know anyone who is involved in the on-selling of alcohol please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Police on 131 444.”
