Escapee Arrested – Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 22-year-old male after he absconded from the Low Security Cottages at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre on Saturday night.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Hopwood said that officers arrested the man about 12pm in the Todd River.

“A member of the community contacted the Police with the escapee’s whereabouts,” he said.

“A section of the Todd River was cordoned off near the casino and the man surrendered without incident.

“He was allegedly in possession of a small quantity of cannabis.”

He has been charged with:

  • Possess a dangerous drug (cannabis)
  • Escape from lawful custody

He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court tomorrow.
