Finke Race Weekend – Have Fun and Stay Safe

Police

Northern Territory Police have some important safety messages for Finke race-goers so that everyone has an incident free long weekend.

Acting Senior Sergeant Conan Robertson said that Police will be present at the event, as in previous years.

“We work closely with organisers, land owners and officials and ask that spectators, participants and the community also work with us to ensure everyone has a fun, but safe time,” he said

You should ensure that you:

  • Leave unregistered vehicles and trailers at home
  • Be respectful to the environment and those around you
  • Do not drink and drive
  • Wear seatbelts
  • Follow the road rules, they still apply
  • Drive to the conditions
  • Leave the racing to the competitors
  • Protect your belongings
  • Lock up your house before you leave
  • Lock up your car and put valuables out of sight.

“Spectators need to check their surroundings to ensure that they don’t camp or sit too close to the track, on the track or in run-off areas,” said Acting Senior Sergeant Robertson.

“Listen when the officials announce safety advice, which you are required to adhere to. If you have a problem or see something dangerous feel free to speak to one of the patrolling Police or call 131 444.

“Finally I wish everyone attending or involved in the event a safe and enjoyable weekend. Have a good time with family and friends while remaining aware of the risks that motor sports present. Please behave in a sensible and responsible manner to ensure everyone’s safety.”
