Northern Territory Police are searching for a remanded prisoner who absconded from custody at Alice Springs Hospital.

A Department of Correctional Services spokesman said that Galvin Riley, aged 26, fled from the hospital about 9.30pm on Monday, 4 July.

Mr Riley, who was in custody on remand for an aggravated assault charge, was admitted to the hospital yesterday for non-emergency treatment of an existing condition.

Detective Acting Superintendent Peter Malley said that additional Police resources have been allocated to search and locate the absconder.

“Mr Riley is described as being of Indigenous appearance, 170cm tall and of medium build,” Detective A/Supt Malley said.

“Police urge the public not to approach Mr Riley. If anyone has seen him or knows of his whereabouts, please phone Police on 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
