Realignment of the Northern Territory Police Force

Police

Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services (NTPFES) Commissioner and CEO, Reece Kershaw, today announced the proposed organisational realignment of the Northern Territory Police Force.

Commissioner Kershaw said the realignment was designed to complement the outcomes of the recent review of the NT Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service (NTFRES), and will ensure NTPFES continue achieving their goal of delivering the best possible frontline services for the community.

“The past few months have seen significant progress in determining the future shape and structure of the Northern Territory Police Force, which has occurred against the backdrop of a rapidly changing policing environment, technological advances and the need for greater flexibility as a Force,” Mr Kershaw said.

“A modern police force must be able to respond quickly, to meet the unending and often unexpected range of challenges confronting all of us every day.

“This realignment is about planning for an increasingly uncertain world and giving the Agency, and our people, the flexibility to adapt to new challenges or sudden crisis. It will ensure our counter terrorism, emergency management and overall functions are aligned.”

Divisions will realign, although most Police members will not notice major changes to their day-to-day work, with their functions continuing as usual. Further specific details of the realignment will be announced in coming weeks.
