The Commissioner of the Northern Territory Police, Reece Kershaw APM, has announced the creation of a Special Task Force into claims made by the ABC’s Four Corners program of abuse of youth whilst in detention.
“Following the Four Corners program, I have been asked by the Chief Minister to look into claims of abuse of youth whilst in detention.
“This morning, I gave instructions to establish a Special Task Force headed by an Assistant Commissioner to investigate the matters raised in the program,” Commissioner Kershaw said.
Terms of reference for the Task Force will include:
- An examination of all new evidence contained within the Four Corners program;
- An investigation into whether any criminal offences have been committed by any persons involved.
- A review of previous investigations involving abuse of youth in detention.
