Northern Territory Police have charged a 32-year-old woman after she allegedly assaulted two officers during drug screening at Alyangula airport.

Senior Sergeant Tanya Woodcock from Alyangula Police said the woman and her partner, also 32, were searched after receiving information the pair were bringing cannabis into remote communities.

“During the search, the woman became aggressive before allegedly kneeing and striking out at an Officer,” she said.

“She then allegedly produced a tightly-wrapped packet of cannabis, which she threw at another Officer, hitting her on the chest.”

Neither officer was injured.

In total, 96 grams of cannabis was found.

The pair were both charged with possess a traffickable amount of a schedule 2 drug and supply dangerous drug in a community.

The woman was also charged with assault Police and disorderly behaviour in public

They were both bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 1 September.
