Charges – Attempted Murder – Yarrawonga

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged two males, aged 23 and 30, following an assault in Yarrawonga on Thursday 6 October.

Detective Sergeant Michael Budge from the Gangs Taskforce said a 47-year-old man was working in his shed on McCourt Road when the two males allegedly entered and set upon him about 8.30pm.

“One of the males was armed with what is believed to have been a small axe-style weapon and both men were wearing balaclavas,” he said.

“The victim suffered significant injuries during the assault, including multiple breaks to his arm and two lacerations to his head and neck.”

Police believe the attack was an attempt at retribution by the Rebels OMCG.

The pair were arrested at a residence in Gray on Saturday.

They were both charged with attempted murder and unlawful entry.

The duo will appear in Darwin Local Court on Monday 10 October.

“It’s these type of outlaw gangs that believe they can operate outside the law. Police will continue to target those who use standover and intimidation tactics,” Detective Sergeant Budge said.

“Police will continue to detect, deter and disrupt criminal activities of these OMCG gangs.”
