March Against Violence this White Ribbon Day

Police

Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services invites the community to join with them in a march to Raintree Park tomorrow, Friday 25 November 2016, to speak out to stop violence against women.

Commencing at 11.30am, the march will proceed along the Esplanade and Knuckey Street, ending at Raintree Park, with a presentation and community barbeque catered by NT Police.

Commissioner and CEO Reece Kershaw encourages all Territorians to show their support for White Ribbon Day and pledge to prevent, respond and speak out about domestic and family violence.

“Addressing domestic and family violence in our community is one of the highest priorities for the Northern Territory Police Force,” Commissioner and CEO Kershaw said.

“On average over a 12 month period, one Australian woman a week dies from an act of domestic violence, while one in three Australian women have experienced physical or sexual violence in her lifetime. This is unacceptable, and it must stop.”

“Northern Territory Police are committed to working in partnership with the community and other stakeholders to prevent and reduce the high rates of domestic and family violence across the Northern Territory.

“By marching with us, you are joining our campaign to stop violence against women, children and vulnerable persons.”
