Charges – Alcohol in restricted areas

Police

Northern Territory Police have seized a total of five vehicles in Alice Springs that were allegedly taking alcohol into dry communities over the past week.

Acting Superintendent Pauline Vicary said on 26 November a 34-year-old woman was stopped by police as she entered an alcohol restricted camp.

“Upon a search of her vehicle, officers located two bottles of spirits. The alcohol, and the woman’s car were seized by police,” said Acting Superintendent Pauline Vicary.

“On the 25November police apprehended another vehicle that was entering a dry community and seized three bottles of spirits.

“This along with the other seizures has stopped alcohol from entering into several restricted areas and affecting vulnerable members of the community.

“Alice Springs Police are committed to preventing alcohol related offences, particularly offences that contribute to family violence. We will continue to take action to identify offenders who take alcohol into Alcohol Protected areas and bring them before the courts.”
