Call for Information – Assault with Intent to Steal – Karama

Police

Northern Territory Police are calling for information after a taxi driver was assaulted in Karama this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board from the Serious Crime Squad said the driver was stationary on Kalymnos Drive when a stolen white Toyota Land Cruiser utility drove up to the taxi colliding with the front bumper about 5:45am.

“Two occupants of the utility have approached the taxi wearing balaclavas.

“The taxi driver has run from his taxi and was chased by one offender who punched the driver to the head before demanding money.

“The two offenders have then fled in the stolen Land Cruiser in the direction of McMillans Road.”

The 2001 Land Cruiser utility used in the robbery was stolen from a property in Rosebery earlier in the night. The registration number is 724 727.

Police urge the public not to approach the vehicle or the occupants, but to report any sightings immediately to police.

Police are also requesting anyone who may have witnessed the assault or have any information about the offenders to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
