Northern Territory Fire and Rescue crews responded to a structure fire in Coconut Grove early this morning.

On arrival at 2:30am crews observed a large amount of smoke coming from a two-storey townhouse in Litchfield Court.

Firefighters forced entry into the premises and the fire was quickly contained to the lounge room area.

Pieces of furniture were damaged in the blaze along with considerable smoke damage.

Senior Constable Anya Hoffman from the Serious Crime Squad said fire crews have handed over to investigators who are conducting enquiries.

“We are treating the fire as suspicious and are appealing to anyone in the area at the time or who may have information regarding the fire to come forward.”
