Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses following an assault on a 76-year-old man at a resort in Katherine.

Northern Investigations Section Detective Senior Constable Karl Gunderson said the victim was woken in the early hours of Tuesday morning by footsteps on the roof of the Knotts Crossing Resort.

“The man then left his room and was confronted by a group of unknown males, one of which struck him with a metal broom handle.”

He was taken to Katherine District Hospital, before being transported to Darwin.

The males are described as of indigenous appearance.
