Tropical Low – Update 3

Police

The Bureau of Meteorology has cancelled all cyclone watches and warnings associated with the Tropical Low in the Northern Territory, however a severe weather warning continues for the region.

NT Emergency Service Regional Manager North Mark Cunnington is advising the public to be aware for the potential of localised flooding.

Considerable rainfall over the past 24 hours has increased the risk of flooding across roads in the Darwin region.

Darwin River Dam has now reached 100% capacity and the spillway will start flowing with further rain expected.

There is also a possibility that Rapid Creek will rise sharply with rain on high tide this evening around 6.30pm.

“Streams can rise very quickly, and we are asking that residents in flood prone areas be alert and prepared to move out if waters rise,” Mr Cunnington said.

Drivers are reminded of the dangers in crossing a flooded road and are urged to find an alternative route.

Motorists should check road conditions before travelling by visiting www.roadreport.nt.gov.au.
