Northern Territory Police have charged three people in relation to the seizure of more than 13kg of cannabis believed to be transported into the Territory via road train.

Organised Crime Division Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said police arrested a 42-year-old man following a traffic apprehension on a Toyota Landcruiser.

“A search of the vehicle located box allegedly containing 6.8kg of cannabis, sorted into 15 vacuum bags. It’s believed the man had collected the box from a transport yard in East Arm,” he said.

“Officers then carried out a search warrant on the transport yard, and located an identical box contain another 6.8kg of cannabis. A tool box allegedly containing more than $40,000 cash was also located in the cabin of the truck.

“During the warrant, a 19-year-old woman – alleged to be the recipient of the second box of cannabis – attended the yard.”

The woman and a 51-year-old male believed to be the prime mover were arrested.

A further search warrant at the 42-year-old man’s home address uncovering a further $28,800.

The men were charged with possess and supply commercial quantity – schedule 2 and possess proceeds of crime.

The woman was charged with supply commercial quantity – schedule 2.

All three were remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

“This particular seizure has a wholesale value of $162,000 and potential street value of over $1,000,000,” Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said.
