Woman Charged – Counterfeit Notes

Police

Northern Territory Police are again warning the public to be on the lookout for counterfeit notes that may be circulating around Darwin.

The reminder comes following the three more reports of their use over the weekend. On all three occasions, a female and male have used counterfeit $50 notes to purchase goods.

On one occasion staff have immediately notified police, who attended and arrested the female. The male fled the scene and remains outstanding.

The woman aged 32, was charged with possess and utter counterfeit money (x4) and stealing. She will appear in Darwin Local Court today.

We ask all businesses to be vigilant when accepting $50 or $100 notes. The notes are clearly marked with Chinese writing and are easily identifiable. If a note is handed to you folded, please take the time to examine it before finalising the transaction.

We encourage anyone who has fallen victim to this scam, or anyone with any information to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
