Fire Investigation - Batchelor

Police

Fire crews are currently fighting a large wildfire in the Batchelor region which is believed to have been deliberately lit.

On Monday 12 June, Bushfires NT staff were conducting aerial surveys of the area when they observed smoke. They diverted to the location and observed a group of people allegedly lighting fires.

Several vehicles and dogs were also in the area leading police to believe they were a hunting party and possibly starting the fires to flush out pigs.

The fire has continued to burn and has destroyed a large amount of land including crops and feed lots.

Bushfires NT has saved several houses and structures in the path of the fire.

NT Police are asking anyone who has information on the hunting party to please call them on 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
