Man Charged – Aggravated Assault – Darwin CBD

Northern Territory Police have charged a 50-year-old man in relation to an aggravated assault on Mitchell Street yesterday morning.

“The alleged incident occurred around 4:00am at a licensed premises,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant David Allan.

“The man, who was ejected from the premises earlier, returned to the location allegedly armed with two knives.

“A security guard and another male patron attempted to disarm the offender.

“During this, the security guard sustained a stab wound to his shoulder. The patron sustained a stab wound to his thigh.

“The offender fled the area, but was arrested a short time later by general duties officers.”

He has been charged with:

  • Unlawfully cause serious harm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Going armed in public

He will appear in Darwin Local Court this morning.

“The 51-year-old male security guard remains in Royal Darwin Hospital receiving treatment,” Detective Senior Sergeant Allan said.

The other man was released from hospital yesterday.
