Drink Drivers Charged - Mataranka

Police

Mataranka police have been kept busy this week following six arrests for drink driving, three of which occurred within 10 minutes of each other.

Acting Senior Sergeant Melissa Sanderson said the first driver was apprehended on Tuesday night after police pulled over a Toyota Troop Carrier.

“The 47-year-old male driver returned a positive reading of .113BrAC. He was arrested and taken to the local station.

“On the way there, police noticed a Holden Commodore driving slowly towards them. The vehicle has then come to a complete stop. The 65-year-old male driver was breath tested and returned a reading of .128BrAC.

“Whilst this arrest was occurring, a Daewoo sedan has approached police. The driver of that vehicle was also breath tested and returned a reading of .160BrAC.

“Yesterday, a further three drink drivers were arrested in the Mataranka area with the highest reading coming from a 34-year-old male who returned a reading of .204BrAC.”

They will all appear in Mataranka Local Court on 22 November 2017

These latest arrests have left local police appalled by the behaviour of motorists.

“These motorists have shown a blatant disregard for the law, their own lives and the lives of innocent road users,” Acting Senior Sergeant Sanderson said.

“The message is simple, if you plan on having a few drinks then don’t get behind the wheel.

“Enough’s enough!”
